Brand Identity

Refresh your brand

Ah, your brand and logo. The visual cornerstones of your creative empire. They’ve been with you through the ups, downs, and the occasional all-nighter fueled by caffeine and existential dread. But here’s the million-dollar question: are they still doing the heavy lifting for your business, or are they starting to feel a little…dated? Let’s dive into the signs that it’s time for a refresh, what to consider, and how a brand glow-up can elevate your business.

Signs It’s Time To Refresh

One sign that it might be time for a refresh is when your branding no longer feels aligned with your business’s growth. Maybe you’ve expanded your offerings or shifted your target audience, and your current visuals just don’t capture the essence of what you’ve become. For example, a logo that worked perfectly when you were a scrappy startup may feel out of place now that you’ve evolved into a more polished operation. If you cringe when you look at your logo or hesitate to hand out your business card, that’s a pretty big hint that change is overdue.

Another reason to consider a refresh is digital compatibility. A logo designed before the digital era may struggle to translate well across modern platforms. Does your logo look crisp and professional in a tiny Instagram profile picture or as a favicon on a browser tab? If not, a redesign can ensure that your visuals shine in every context. Additionally, if your competitors’ branding is outshining yours and making you feel like a wallflower at the industry party, it’s time to reclaim the spotlight with a brand look that demands attention.

What To Consider Before Refreshing Your Brand

When embarking on a refresh, it’s essential to consider what you want your brand to say about you. Branding is more than just design—it’s the story you tell and the emotional connection you create with your audience. Start by asking yourself some tough but illuminating questions.

What’s working about your current branding?

What isn’t?

What do you want people to feel when they interact with your brand?

This is an opportunity to clarify your message, streamline your visuals, and ensure every element of your branding works together cohesively.

What A Refresh Can Do For Your Business

A brand refresh isn’t just about keeping up appearances; it’s also about what it can do for your business. An updated brand can build trust and credibility by signaling that you’re a professional who takes your image seriously. It can also improve recognition, helping your audience remember and connect with you more easily. Perhaps most exciting, a refresh can attract your dream clients by creating an aesthetic and tone that resonates with the people you most want to work with. And let’s not forget the internal boost—nothing reinvigorates a team (or a solo entrepreneur) quite like a fresh, polished brand.

Knowing When The Time Is Right

So how do you know it’s the right time? Look for the signs: branding that feels stale, visuals that don’t play nice digitally, or a disconnect between your current brand and where your business is headed.

A well-executed refresh isn’t about abandoning what you’ve built; it’s about refining it to reflect your growth and set the stage for what’s next. After all, your brand deserves to evolve just as much as you do.

Journaling Prompts

Before Diving Headfirst Into Goals, Why Not Reflect and Refresh?

Grab a journal, a pen, and maybe a good cup of coffee. These five journaling prompts are designed to help you uncover areas of your life and business ready for a 2025 glow-up.

  1. What are three things I’m most proud of from 2024, and how can I build on them?

Focus on what worked instead of chasing shiny new ideas. Double down on strategies that brought results.

  2. What’s one area of my life or business that feels out of alignment?

Pinpoint what’s dragging you down. Maybe it’s saying yes to every client or not making time for creativity. Write down one step to fix it.

  3. If I could wave a magic wand, what would my ideal workday look like?

This can reveal where your schedule needs adjusting. Are you overworking? Missing time for hobbies? Find one tweak to make that wand-wish a reality.

  4. What’s one thing I’ve been avoiding, and how can I tackle it?

Whether it’s updating your LinkedIn or launching that podcast, write down why you’ve avoided it—and why you shouldn’t anymore.

  5. What do I want people to say about my business a year from now?

This will guide your goals and branding decisions. Build the business reputation you dream of.

Journaling isn’t just self-reflection—it’s a blueprint for intentional change, and it can be done all year long, not just after the countdown in January.

DJ Ben Arsenal

Step into the rhythmic world of DJ Ben Arsenal, a powerhouse of Philly’s House music scene, as we go behind the scenes in his studio—housed in the depths of a repurposed window factory. Known for igniting dance floors with his infectious global beats and deep house grooves, Ben takes us on a journey through his creative process, sharing the wisdom that fuels his craft and the stories that inspire his sound.

From international stages to the heart of his hometown, this Q&A offers a glimpse into the mind of a DJ redefining the boundaries of music and culture.

What's the most impactful performance or set you've ever done, and where did it take place?

Recently, it was when my mother attended her first Departed (about a year and a half ago). It was a major "aha" moment for her to see all of the past 15 years make sense as to why I love this path so much.

Which place holds the most profound musical inspiration for you, whether it's a vibrant city or a quiet room at home?

My studio! There are so many years of deep work, collaborations, and memories there. It's irreplaceable!

Who has been the most influential person in your musical journey, and how did your paths cross?

It is probably my dear friend and mentor Pablo Batista. We have had so many incredible moments along the way together with ups and downs. He is so accomplished yet so humble. I am grateful to work with someone at his level.

Can you share the one track or album that changed how you see music and why it resonated with you?

It must be Led Zeppelin's work from when I first discovered it in my early teens. The massive drums, huge guitars, and energy were off the charts.

What was the last album you listened to, and who was it by? Did it inspire anything for you?

I picked up some reggae records by Midnite from a friend who distributes their work. It's so meditative, smooth, and soothing!
